ProJo: Bank of America to leave downtown Providence landmark
By Paul Grimaldi
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Bank of America will move its workers out of the office tower at 111 Westminster St. by April 2013, as the bank consolidates its Providence office space, the bank's top Rhode Island executive told The Journal.
The bank's decision to move workers elsewhere downtown threatens to darken a Providence landmark, one long associated with banking in Rhode Island.
It also potentially will empty an office building as the real estate market is still recovering from the recession.
"Clearly, it's an iconic building," said Bill Hatfield, president of Bank of America's operations in this state. "It's a real landmark in Providence [and] it's played an important role for the bank."
